Darker area of skin on lower glutes

I first noticed the issue of two darker patches of skin on my lower glutes several years ago.  Since it didn't hurt, I never looked into it in further detail.  The affected area has also never seemed to worsen or get better and has always looked like such (image of the area: http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/2168/1748u.jpg).  Nowhere else do I have this skin issue.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
From your symptoms it looks like hyperpigmentation skin. This darkening occurs when an excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces normal skin color, forms deposits in the skin.

Treatment involves hydroquinone, azelaic acid, corticosteroids, tretinoin cream and laser treatment. Please discuss these options with your dermatologist before using them.
I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
