Chronic strange growth on my ring finger began in the cuticle almost 20 years ago.

Almost two decades ago, I noticed three small pink bumps at the beginning of my cuticle.  Over time the condition has spread very slowly up my finger.  It is now nearly to the first joint.  It doesn't itch, or hurt in any way until it cracks and bleeds.  I have tried everything over the years!  It seems to have cycles of flare and times when it almost goes away by itself.  I don't have it on any other part and my wife has never contracted it.  Fingernail and cuticle are normal but the growth remains.  I should mention I have had Type I Diabetes for 35 yrs now and is well controlled.  There could be an auto-immune element at work here.
