I noticed you mentioned cheilitis in your answer above.  I was diagnosed with Angular Cheilitis about 8 months ago.  My dermatologist said that it was just from accumulated moisture at the sides of my mouth when I sleep.  I wonder why it just started now?  My sleep pattern hasn't changed.  Nothing has changed in my life that would cause this.  It is very painful when I wake up and I do everything possible to not yawn!!!  When I get up I put either hydrocortisone (prescribed) on the inner sides of my lips, or if it's not very bad I will just put some prescribed moisture creme to keep it from "cracking."  My question is why would something like this just pop up pretty much over night?  I also have noticed some "bites" that aren't bites, but sort of look like bites on the upper part of my foot and ankle, also on my elbow.  I can't believe how painful these things are.  And like the angular cheilitis, these just came up out of the blue!  Is it AGE?  Could it be some allergy?  Why do people get angular cheilitis?  I'd never heard of it before and I spent my entire working years working for teaching hospitals or private doctors.  I didn't go out of the country.  I'm just stumped.  I also previously posted a message regarding putting on some fluid retention without any reason why..Can these things be related?  Can they point to some reason as to why I'm suddenly breaking out with all these wierd things??  As I said in my other question, no doctor can figure out the reason for this fluid retention.  And I've seen a ton of doctors.  They also can SEE with their naked eyes all this fluid.  One doctor said there was some reason that my vascular system was "leaking" out into my tissues.  But that's as far as it went with him.  When all these things started showing up I had just had a Lithotripsy to get rid of an 11mm kidney stone, had some laser treatment for some unwanted hair on my legs (tired of shaving!), my doctor dropped my Premarin from .9mgs to .3 mgs because he thought my prior dose was too high!!  Then we flew to Hawaii....I was so stressed out due to a horrible experience I had only 2 years prior while flying....I think I held my head on my husbands chest the entire 5 hour flight because of my anxiety.  I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 16 years of age. I ended up with Peritonitis due to a botched up D & C (I had the D & C for some irregular bleeding)  I had Parrot fever, Coarctation of the celiac artery (surgically fixed) and so many other things that this "window" isn't large enough for me to write about them.  I just want this cheilitis to go away and I want this fluid retention to go away...both of these things are so painful !!! I don't know what else to do, where to go, who to see.  After 7 back surgeries, and so many other surgeries, I'm at a loss as to what to do. I'm thin so my doctors just don't see the urgency I feel to get rid of this fluid!  Since they have ruled out the serious reasons for this edema, they just have pretty much given up.   I need some help from someone who has a different point of view!

Hi,

This could be acne/ pimples or an allergic reaction to some unknown substance. Do not pick at the lesions as this would cause secondary bacterial infection.

This could also be cold sores, apthous ulcers, mucoceles, fungal infection or cheilitis.

Nothing can be said with surety without having a look at the lesions. Have you noticed any other associated symptoms?

You could take some oral antihistamine or anti-allergic medications like loratadine or cetrizine. Take syrup benadryl and see if it helps with your symptoms.

Are you allergic to any specific substances? Apply a medicated lip balm with sun screen.

Drink plenty of water, eat a healthy balanced diet and replace any deficient vitamins, and consult your skin specialist if the lesions persist.

Let us know about how you are doing and if you have any other doubts.

Keep us posted.

Regards.
