Around 8 years ago I noticed that I was starting to get dark spots on the left side of my face most prominently near my mouth. Throughout the years these spots kept multiplying and getting darker and again this is only on one side of my face. My dermatologist told me this was an actual condition where hyper pigmentation occurs only on one side of the body. Note that I was only 12 years old when I stated noticing this.
Around 4 years ago I went to another private dermatologist/plastic surgeons office hoping there was a laser treatment that could lighten these spots. The doctor told me that because I have ethnic skin (I have a middle eastern background) there's a chance that the laser could worsen the problem and make my spots darker. The only way to test this out is to do a biopsy on a portion of my skin but then this could leave scarring. They also told me that since its a genetic condition, no sort of bleaching cream would work either. This was all very rushed and unsympathetic.
I'm now a 21 year old girl who gets stared at like a freak if I'm not wearing makeup. I wear spf 55 every single day to prevent further darkening of the spots, and other than this I'm not really sure what more I can be doing.
Does anyone know anything that could help? Is it actually impossible to use a bleaching cream for these spots? Is there a type of laser treatment that can be used on ethnic skin (I'm also not that dark, more of an olive skin tone)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Also if someone has the actual name for this condition that would be great.
