I've been on Acutane for three months, and I've been taking 40 mg doses for two months. It's working greatk and I really don't want to stop taking it.

I've had a lot of mood swings lately, and I feel like I might be getting depressed. Not severely, just mild. However, I've had a lot of bad and stressful things going on in my life lately, so I can't definetey say that the Acutane is the cause of this. I've read that there's nothing proven, but everyone has a point of view, and I don't know what to think, beacuse if it is the Acutane I really would like to know so I don't go on feeling so down, but I'm afraid if I tell my dermatolgist they will take me off it when I'm not even sure it's the Acutane. In your opinion, how likely is it that the Acutane is causing this? I've only been feeling depressed for three weeks or so, and the stressful stuff started about two months ago.

Help =(

Hi. I agree, your dermatologist is on your side and wants to help you. Be honest with him so he can decide whether the expected benefits of continuing your treatment outweigh the potential side effects. He may adjust your dose, or he may decide to monitor you more frequently.

If you have thoughts of harming yourself take no further tablets and contact a doctor or go to a hospital emergency department.

I suffer from both acne and depression if you would like to talk. Loiloi xx

Hi,

You must not hold back this information from your doctor. He is the one who needs to decide whether you needs this therapy any further or not. He may also help you with the depressive symptoms and provide you details on how to get treatment for that.

It i not unknown that isotretinoin caused mood changes and there fore this needs serious consideration.

Hope you realize the need to tell your doctor about this.

Let us know if you have any other queries.

All the best.
