Red spot on shoulder that won't go away

I saw a dermatologist 2 weeks ago for a full body check and to check a red spot on my shoulder. It's been there on and off for months- which I forgot to mention. The doctor looked at it (with something she looked through that she held in her hand) and told me it was fine. It's still there and I'm worried it might be basal cell carcinoma...that's kind of what it looks like. It's a small red spot that just never goes away. Sometimes it looks more irritated than others, but it's never really gone. If it was something to be worried about, the doctor would have seen it, right? Even if I didn't mention that it's been there a while?

It's probably nothing to worry about, but since you are concerned, why not make an appt with your derm and ask specifically about it? Mention that it's been there awhile, and if you aren't satisfied with her answer about what it is, ask her to biopsy it.

Chances are the doctor would have been suspicious and mentioned it, but there's nothing wrong with putting your mind at ease just in case she missed it.
