Scabies

I was recently (Today) was diagnosed by my GP that I am infected with scabies. He prescribed me with Antihistamines, another set that would help with sleep and a "Lyclear" 5% w/w Dermal Cream.
Now as I applied the cream, it started burning quite severely and then the burning subsided. My question is why did it burn so badly and is this normal?
Thank you all,
Killean

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Lyclear dermal cream contains the active ingredient permethrin which is the main treatment of scabies and may cause discomfort after application, such as burning, stinging or tingling. If the burning or stinging persists then it may be due to an allergic reaction to the cream and then it should be discontinued.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Thank you for your help Dr Kaur. That explains the immediate burning sensation. I researched (by research I mean unashamedly typed into the all powerful engine that is Google) permethrin and it seems a short immediate burning sensation was its number one most common side affect.

I would greatly appreciate it if you wouldn't mind answering a question or two more. Since the application of the cream, I have noticed that there doesn't seem to be any new legions appearing which is definitely a relief but the intense itch is still present. Is this normal? Finally, would you recommend a second application of the cream after a few days as I am aware of the fact that whilst the mites themselves may be killed, the eggs that they have laid may still hatch even after the cream's application. Friday will be a week since the first application.

Thankyou so very much for taking the time to help.
