Bactrim - Sulfameth/Trimehoprim 800/160 side effects

Hello,

I have been taking bactrim now for about 10 days, and recently since a few days ago i have noticed redness on my penis. I am circumcised and have the redness where my shaft meets my coronal region.

I was wondering if bactrim could cause such irritation. Its mild pain and slight burning. The dermatologist i saw said that it is irritation and not anything STD related. I however, completely forgot to tell the dermatologist that i was on bactrim.

any advice?

Generally the eruption would heal in a couple of weeks leaving behind a browish rounded pigmentation.

How long can a FDE even last for?

I've looked it up and it does say that this drug causes FDE, but so does other over the counter drugs such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen.

I went to the doctor and he said it is irritated and gave me Triamcinolone Acetonide Topical. Its a steroid and antifungal cream. Hasnt been so effective though.

I also used Aldara on the same spot but that was over 2 months ago.

The current symptoms have been present for almost 2 weeks now.

There is a possibility of a Fixed Drug Eruption(FDE) here. The sulfa part of the tablet is known to induce this. Do consult your doc.

Could it also have been that my underwear were washed with a mixture of chlorine detergent?
