Skin Peeling

Ever since my daughter was born (1 year and 1 month ago), she has had an odd skin condition. Her palms of her hands and the soles of her feet peel. It has gotten worse. There are times that her feet get so raw that she walks on her tip toes. There is no apparent sign of sweating either. Her doctor told me that some people get it and some people keep it. I am not comfortable with that answer. Have you heard about this?

My daughter, after switching doctors a few time and going to the er about a month ago, has been preliminarily diagnosed with (forgive the spelling) epidermolysis bullosa simplex. Hopefully this helps someone. Our struggle is still going on with this disorder.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
How are you? Hows your daughter? What is the color of her skin in these peeling parts? Normally, every 28 days, the epidermis, or outer layer of the skin, is completely replaced once. This is influenced by various factors such as hydration, friction, sun exposure and various other environmental issues. Peeling skin is therefore a temporary problem and is known to heal in a few days as the new skin surfaces. Though there are few exceptions such as: 1)in case of infections or medications that cause the skin to peel or, 2) a hereditary disorder known as Peeling Skin Syndrome, all of which may require medical consultation to cure peeling skin. Some of the known causes leading to this skin disorder are: excessive perspiration, staph or viral infections, or excessive sun exposure resulting in sunburn.

Peeling skin syndrome is an extremely rare inherited disorder characterized by continual, spontaneous skin peeling or exfoliation. Other findings may include reddening of the skin  and itching.  Type B is associated with congenital erythroderma, a condition in which the skin has an intense red color.

I hope this helps. Take care and keep us posted.
