This Exfoliative keratolysis you speak of, is it common for this to just appear in your mid 30's? I never had this before but about 3 years ago it started and it is really bad on my palms and the bottoms of my feet. It is very painful and nothing seems to help it.
My little girl age 6 has 10 fingertips peeling and one part on the top of her palm.
She also has chapped red lips and a rash starting underneath her nose..
2 weeks ago she may of had strep throat. She was treated for it the Dr was 99% sure thats what it was. In that time she had some high fevers..
I am not sure if this can be connected at all...
I am just looking for opinions if this is something someone else may be aware of i will be taking her to the clinic tomorrow to get it checked out.
THanks....
Hi,
Exfoliative keratolysis is a common skin condition in which there is focal peeling of the palms and less often the soles. The first sign is one or more superficial air-filled blisters on the fingers or palms. The blisters burst to leave expanding circular or oval, tender, peeled areas. These peeled areas lack a normal barrier function and may become red, dry and cracked. The symptoms are aggravated by exposure to irritants including water, soap, detergents and solvents. Eventually normal skin forms, but frequently exfoliative keratolysis recurs within a few weeks.
This condition does not improve with topical steroids, unlike hand dermatitis. The following may be helpful: protection from irritants, emollient hand creams especially those containing urea, lactic acid, or silicone and photochemotherapy. If it persists, it is best to see your doctor for further evaluation and management.
Take care and regards.
