What is "Corned Beef Legs?

Hi.
Some women use the term "Corned Beef Legs" to describe a diffuse and patchy discolouration of the skin on the thighs.
Can you please tell me:-
1) The medical term for this?
2) Aetiology?
3) Treatment?
4) Is it the same condition as "Chicken Skin"?

Many thanks.

Thank you Doctor.
As you say it is not Keratosis Pilaris (Chicken Skin).
I don't think it is hyperpigmentation either, as the discolouration varies with temperature and is usually worse in the winter.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
This patch discoloration can be due to hyperpigmentation skin or tinea versicolor. Tinea versicolor is caused by a fungus that lives in the skin of almost all adults. Factors that can cause the fungus to become more visible include high humidity and immune or hormone abnormalities.Treatment involves topical and oral antifungal medicines. It is not chicken skin which is due to keratosis pilaris which occurs when the human body produces excess keratin, a natural protein in the skin.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
