Has anyone else had this mysterious redness around lips?

For about 5 months now, I've had this constant redness around my lips. It came out of nowhere - no new facial creams or soaps or changed in anything - and started as a small pinkish patch near my lower lip. Over time, it spread to be thicker and make a full ring around my mouth. Currently, it's not bumpy or itchy - just dry and sort of leathery, sort of smooth. Basically, it doesn't feel like the rest of my skin. http://imgur.com/a/3wkTE

I've been to the doctor's three times for this. They can't seem to call it anything beyond 'peristalsis dermatitis' which is an extremely vague term... The first time they put me on a clindamycin solution that dried it out even more, but made some of the initial bumps and inflammation go down. The second time, they gave me metronidazole, which semi-worked for a little while, but we were seeing very little improvement. The third time they put me on oral antibiotics as well as giving me clindamycin in a lotion form.

I'm out of the antibiotics and I'm using the clindamycin lotion twice daily, but progress has sort of plateaued. The clindamycin will get it to the point where it forms some new skin over the top but then starts to crack and peel again, and I'm back to square one.

I've tried every lip balm, at the doctor's suggestion I tried a week of nothing but Vaseline, I've tried days of absolutely nothing, but it just stays every time. It's particularly annoying because I don't even have the option to cover it with makeup if I needed to - the difference in skin texture makes the makeup stick to it differently and you can still see the outline of the discoloration.

If anyone has experienced this or something similar, I would be extremely grateful if you would share what fixed it. I'm so embarrassed of my looks that I haven't taken a voluntary picture in months and I have the strong urge to never go out in public since I know people are staring at it.
