I suffer from severe skin problems that flare up every winter. It often times just stretches itself into deep crevices. (PAINFUL).

However the easiest way I have found, is to use natural oils from plants. Using plant oils which you can usually find at any co-op or eco friendly store and epson salt.

Taking hot baths. 30-45 minutes long  allows the skin to soften, and it allows the pours to open up. The Epsom salt acts like a bridge between the oil and the skin, and allows the skin to absorb the oils when you stand up out of the water.

The plant oil is lighter than water, and it floats on the surface of the water there for when you stand up the oils will append itself to your body like a sheet.

Contrary to what is said about homeopathic medicines,  as a nutritionist myself,  I must say that if you allow natural plant oils to serve as a moisturizer, protector, a vitamin source it can be beneficial to your overall epidermis health. (IE aloe on dry skin, lavender pulp on open raw patches, plantain mulch on bee stings, poison ivy, and other extremely painful skin problems serves as an astringent)

The downside to this is, unless you know what your allergies are, It isn't suggested to pursue this course of action.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

The cold and dry weather during winter causes the skin to dry and this may lead to the itchiness. There may be no apparent rash associated with winter itch. I suggest that you apply a mild and bland cream to moisturize the area .This will help trap moisture and keep the skin supple. Irritant or xerotic eczema may be used interchangeably with winter itch. This type of eczema is due to repeated exposure to a drying or irritating agent. The dryness may initiate an itch cratch cycle  which may cause excoriations and further worsening of the skin condition.Aveeno and cetaphil may be good choices. You wash the skin with cetaphil and use Aveeno to moisturize the area.

You may discuss with your physician the advantages of antihistamines or corticosteroids (if applicable) in your case especially for severe itchiness.
