ear infection

we ear pierced my daughter in 10months.after 3 days the ear ring from left came out accidentally.then we tried hard to put it back as it caused pain to her.after that we can watch some watery fluid coming out but not too much.now she is 2+ years, same ear starts to creat a itchy sensation, watering sometimes so she started to scratch resulting in small bruises around the pierced hole.now the skin lookes pinkish and  so delicate.one of my friend said that the ear is wrongly pierced on some nerve and it is advisable to leave the hole closed and pierce it again.at present i am applying coconut oil.what my friend says is correct?what am i suppose to do now?

Hi

Yes, it will close. Just give it time to heal first. If you place an earring there , this may only trigger further irritation. Just let it heal for now. Pierce this again when the skin has completely healed. Have a doctor pierce this to ensure that sterile techniques are used. How is your daughter's ear? Is it better? This sounds like contact dermatitis.

Hi

Your child may be having contact dermatitis secondary to the earring .This may initiate an eczematous skin condition. Eczema may be weeping and itchy and may present with a red rash containing some fluid. I suggest that if she is still wearing the earring, then you try removing this and see if the condition resolves. You may have this assessed by her pediatrician so she may be given topical medications to help with the skin condition. Topical corticosteroids may help.

Do not pierce the ear again. Wait for the skin to heal as piercing may lead to infection.
