embarrising scar

about a month ago i removed this bump on my penis with my finger nail which ive had for years and the doctor told me not to worry about because it was harmless. It still bothered me thinking if a girl saw it she might not want to have sex with me. So now i have a scar which is now worse because it is more noticiable than the bump that i had. ive been putting mederma on the healed wound for about 2 weeks now. the scar is the size of half a fingernail, will the scar ever completely dissapear?

even though it has been 7 or 8 months with this white scar on my penis, given the information i gave you, will the sun still help my white scar to darken and blend in with the rest of my fairly brown skin, Ive been also using cocoa butter and this sunblock 45 spf with aloe vera in it.

Hello,
It is unlikely that the scar will lighten with the sun and it may darken or tan. However it is advisable to apply sunscreen and then go in the sun. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Hello,
It is true that exposure to sunlight is helpful in post inflammatory hypopigmentation but you should not directly expose the skin to the sun because of the harmful effects of UV rays. In that case it is advisable to apply a good sunscreen with minimum spf 30 atleast half an hour before going out in the sun. UV rays of the sun are triggers for skin cancers and hence limited exposure should be there.

Hello,
It can be due to post inflammatory hypopigmentation. Post inflammatory hypopigmentation is very difficult to treat but sometimes it goes away on its own after exposure to the sun. Creams like Elidel cream or Protropic can be used on these hypopigmented areas but at such a young age it is not advisable to use them. If the symptoms still persist then you can talk to your dermatologist about laser-assisted chemabrasion(LACA).

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Hello,
It can be a hypertrophic scar. The various treatment options for such scars are chemical peel, dermabrasion, laser or resurfacing of scars, soft-tissue augmentation, intralesional steroid injection (keloids) and excisional surgery in selected cases but less likely for penile scars. Please discuss these treatment options with your dermatologist.
