Faint brown streak on thumbnail

Hi, I noticed yesterday a faint brown streak about 1mm in width on the edge of my thumbnail. When viewed head on, I saw the pigment is in the nail itself and does not extend to the bottom of the nail. I am Chinese 22 year old female. I am afraid that it will be subungual melanoma, do I need to get this checked out by a dermatologist?

Hello,
Fine vertical lines can be splinter hemorrhages under the nail which usually occurs due to blood clot or fat lobules carried in the blood vessels and sometimes they may be associated with arthritis and heart diseases. You may consult a dermatologist to get a final diagnosis.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

A photo of the nail. The streak is right at the edge of the thumbnail.
