peeling fingers

I have started developing very dry skin and peeling at the end of my fingers after sailing, or being exposed to water, especially salt water.  I never used to have this problem and I have always been around water.  Do you know what it could be or how I can stop it so I can continue swimming and sailing without the ends of my fingers peeling away and becoming very sensitive and sore?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi

This may be a case of dishydrotic eczema. I suggest that you avoid immersing or exposing your hands to water for prolonged periods of time. Doing so may only aggravate the condition. Use a mild and bland cleanser to wash your hands and moisturize the skin. Make sure there are no cuts and nicks on the skin prior to applying any creams and lotions. This should resolve through time. Salt water and water in general may dry the skin and cause irritation.

I recommend Elizabeth Arden 8 hour hand cream. It is good for peeling, flaking, sunburn, windburn and other abrasions. Eloise x
