puffy palms

hi
you had a post regarding excessive skin wrinkling on palms when the skin is wet for only a matter of seconds.

i have this condition and have been to see specialists but no one can fathom out what the reason for this is. over the years it has got worse, the symptons include;
puffy raised white area on the palms of my hands these go after apprx half an hour of being dry
little clusters of small holes/pores that seem to follow the lines on the palms of my hand, only in the area that is raised and puffy.
this happens even when my hands sweat in the summer when driving, washing dishes, showering, bathing, cleaning.. all connected with water.
it doesn't hurt but my hands feel so dry it's uncomfortable to touch anything.
a specalist mention that it maybe a karatin deficiencey previously but this has been going on for at least 7 years so i can be sure it'snot something i've just noticed, it also gets worse if i'm stressed.
Please help, i'd love to find a cure or even a reason behind it!

Dear worriedmum100,

The same thing started happening with my little girl about a month ago.  I too am completely scared and anxious about it all, especially after reading and hearing the link to cystic fibrosis. My daughter  recently had a huge list of blood tests done, one which included a cystic fibrosis test, which came back negative. The next test the doctors are doing is a sweat test (to check again for cystic fibrosis), and I'm praying it comes back negative. I will keep you posted on what we find and any other info doctors provide (until then,  it will be sleepless nights and anxiety stricken days)..
Sincerely,
jojosegal

HI OttawaCanadianMom,

Thank you so much for your reply.  Our daughters are the same age. The physicians are not running a whole list of blood tests on her, and I'm petrified.  I keep seeing literature that mentions possibly cystic fibrosis.  So I'm assuming they are going to be checking her for that.  Once I find out more about what exactly the blood tests are looking for, I will share the info. Did your daughter get tests or labs done?
So very painful to see our kids go through this, not knowing what it is, what it could turn out to be.  It's so helpful and comforting "speaking" with other moms, family members, to share our knowledge and experiences.
Sincerely,
jojosegal

Dear Pharmgirl13,

My young daughter has been experiencing the same APW for the last month.  I am mortified with what could be causing this, if there's a major underlying disease.  Now different physicians are having her do a whole bunch of lab work.

Are you still experiencing the symptoms?  You mention this has been happening to you for years. Did they ever resolve and go away?

You are a glimmer of hope for me, because you are the only one I saw on this post that shares with us that you have experienced this for some time, and it appears that you are managing this quite well. I'm beyond anxious, and wondering if this always progresses to cystic fibrosis or some other difficult health issue.  Did you get checked for a bunch of things too?
Kind regards,
jojosegal

Dear Joanne,  I live in Canada and my 12 year old daughter developed this earlier on in the year. We have seen doctors and I have been in touch with physicians in the U.S. as well. It is very upsetting to watch your kid have this. But we have had no luck. It is related to water, and the drysol as well as a stronger aluminum chloride have not helped her. It is very frustrating to hear that no one knows why this happens. Good luck with finding some help.

Hi Mom of an Angel,

Thank you so much for sharing!!!  I have an 11 year old daughter who just started having these same palm symptoms.  I took her to her pediatrician many times, and a couple of dermatologists, all stating it was nothing, perhaps allergic reaction to soaps/lotions, even though we haven't changed any soaps/lotions. All it takes is some water, and all these symptoms show up. It's almost like they don't listen, to what I say, what my daughter tries to expess, or even to proof when my daughter soaks her hands in water at the doctor's office and shows how her palms get white, puffy, cracky, wrinkly, it hurts. We live in Las Vegas and I'm trying to find a physician familiar with this, but no luck yet.  If you (or ANYONE ON THIS POST THAT CAN RECOMEND A PHYSCIAN ON THE WEST COAST) that is knowledgeable in the area of AWP, I would so appreciate if you could share. My family thinks I'm making a big deal, but my little girl is in pain and the symptoms continue, and I am mortified of what it could be. Just need a good, knowledgeable physician.  T
Thank you, and I my thoughts and love are with everyone here.
Joanne
