sex between herpes2 infected couples

Long term relationship with both partners having genital herpes. Both do not have herpes 1. We gathered from Dr.'s reponses on medhelp that we should not be concerned about reinfections or unprotected sex, genital or oral. Other sites, however, seem to have much different advice. They refer to reinfection on other sites on the body particularly suggesting the avoidance of oral sex. Some even suggest using latex gloves when manipulating your partner. Infecting ones own other body sites by oneself is spoken of as a problem in addition to the potential with your partner. The information and advice is between confusing and conflicting. We would appreciate clarification. Thanks

No there is not a risk (from my understanding). Immunity applies to anywhere on the body - assuming the same virus type.

Im curious if the same would apply for HSV1 antibodies... say If one partner had HSV1 genitally and the other had it orally... is there a risk of contracting it in another place for either of them?

Antibodies from herpes will prevent that type from setting up shop anywhere else.  If that were not the case, many people with recurrent herpes would be covered with herpes lesions, just from showering.  I therefore advise that there is no problem for either partner if both have herpes 2 infection.  You might want to consult Dr. Handsfield at the TD Forum a well.

Take care.

The latex gloves one must have been written on the 1st of April. From what I have read, you should just not have oral sex when their is an abvious breakout of lesions.
