Best of luck with your pregnancy! Being diabetic and having gone through a similar experience I would highly recommend leveraging a diabetic educator, exploring the possibility of a continuous glucose monitoring device and/or using an insulin pump during pregnancy. I used all of the above for my pregnancy and really had great luck with keeping things in check (HBA1C's between 5.5 and 6), catching some of the quick turning BG's that can occur before they got too high or too low was a life saver. I also found that going back to the basics, really eating small meals throughout the day with carb/protein mix kept BG's more constant.
Good Luck!
Hello,
it is very important to control your blood sugar well during pregnancy.
Do monitor your blood sugar frequently so you can catch highs and lows quickly and correct them. Avoid all processed and white carbs and fruits and stick to non-starchy veges and regular fat dairy for your carbs. This will help your blood sugar not to go so hihg. If you do eat grains they should be whole and in very small portions.
What insulin do you take? If you are taking a mixed insulin you need to be very careful ith what you eat as you cannot adjust the insulin (I did that on my first pregnancy and it was very hard).
If youare taking separate basal (slow) twice a day, and bolus (fast) insulin before eating and to do corre3ctions you will get much better control. I used this for my second pregnancy.
Please ask your doctor about basal bolus insulin if you are not already taking it.
Please do corrections to bring your sugars down when you are high. Make sure you carry some glucose tablets or sugar with you all the time so that you can correct if you are low. But take care not to over correcrt. If you overcorrect too muc you will be low and then soar high.
Best wishes on your pregnancy.
