Diabetes

Does heavy doses of steroids (for EF) cause diabetes ? The dose has been 60 mg prednisone for 2 months, reduced to 40 for 2 months, now at 35. As the use of steroids are reduced and/or no longer necessary, will the diabetes improve and/or go away?

Thanks for your interest.  Hopefully, when all is said and done, my baseline will return.
Am treated by a team of doctors, but info on this issue has been non-specific.  Thanks again.

I don't know anything about EF, so I don't have much to add (sorry), but I have known fellow diabetics who had to take prednisone and had increased difficulty controlling their blood sugars and increased problems with swelling and bruising, and those problems did revert to baseline once they were done with the Prednisone taper, so hopefully you will have an improvement too.  Sorry no one on the forum seems to be familiar with EF; looks like your best bet is to talk to your doc or someone on your doc's team (nurse, PA, NP)  Best of luck and health!

Re chakaloulou:  Diagnosed as a diabetic since the onset of eosinophilic faciitis and heavy doses of prednisone.  Perfectly healthy (no diabetes) before onset of EF disease.  Is there such a thing as steroid caused diabetes and if the prednisone is reduced will the diabetes improve and go away when prednisone is no longer necessary.

I'm a little confused by your question... have you been diagnosed as diabetic?  Also, sorry... what is EF?
