Need to know.......

Just won a battle from HEP C for 35 years but of course I still could get cancer of the liver, but now I need to know for my wife a problem she has been having for a long time.I guess because of being a diabetic type 2 for at least 20 years, she gets a lot of pain around her thigh area in one of her legs and no matter what she takes, she gets a little relief for a short time but comes right back.I think it runs in my family because my daughter which is in her forties has Diabetic Neuropathies in her foot and they are both over weight. My first question is, what kind of doctor should she be seeing? the diabetic doctor seems like they dont know what to do with the pain or they dont understand the pain.My wife tells me when she is busy at work, it bothers her less but as soon as she sits or lays down, it kills her. The second question is what should she be taken for this kind of pain because she has tried most pain killer but as strong over the counter med., it comes right back. Thanks for any help.

Agree with Dee

Diabetic neuropathy ALWAYS starts in the feet/hands and moves up as it gets worse.  In my case I thought I diabetic neuropathy on the inside of my knee.  I went to a neurologist and they did tests and an MRI.  Bottom line   I have pinched nerve in my back causing the problem not diabetic neuropathy.

She should see a neurologist.

Congratulations on getting through the treatment and being cured.

I am new to the Diabetic forum.  I came here for other information but wanted to say hello.

I had a friend who had diabetes and it got so bad she had to start using insulin.  She continued to eat a lot of junk.  She got what sounded like a bee sting kind of pain in her legs.

I don't know if this is what your wife is experiencing, has she been to a regular doctor for blood work and a physical? Pain in the leg can be caused by diabetes (neuropathy/nerve pain) but it can also happen if your back is bad.

For diabetes I have heard endocrinologist docs are good.

Good luck
