Why dont all of you get your selves investigated for adrenal malfunction instead of Diabetes Type Two, are you sure your not suffering from lack of Vitamin B12, and Chromiu, Magnesium and Potasium imbalance all of which are needed to transport hormone from the adrenal gland to release insulin from the pancrease to deliver the glucose to the muscles to give you abundance of energy. Sounds to me as if your all out of zest!
Im not telling you what you might be short of, Im asking you to look into it.
When I was first diagnosed with type 2 they gavee metformin normal release, i had to take three times a day, I passed out and felt really weak on them, I went back to the dr who gavee the slow release version glocophage and I have them morning and night and have for the past 4 years with perfect bloods and no side effects, sometimes the normal Metformin gets into certain people's blood to quick, hence the slow release version
You sound very physically active; that may be affecting how your body uses the Metformin since diabetics should maintain a certain level of activity to keep their numbers in the safe zone. Be sure to let your doctor know about your sports regimen; he may need to adjust your dosage downward.
I'm not on medication yet and am trying to delay going on meds by keeping active, (trying to) lose weight and eating small meal portions every 2 to 3 hours. I believe diabetics should do everything possible to stay healthy and not just rely on meds alone.
It is my personal belief that too many doctors rush patients into medical relief when they should guide the patient towards diabetes education classes. Not every internist is equipped to deal with a diabetic patient in as much detail as is advisable.
Ask for a referral to a diabetes class or education nurse.
Keep us informed of your progress.

Hey! I am also very newly diagnosed and started metformin this week as well. I am taking 500mg three times a day. It also makes me feel really weird. I am sleeping nine hours a night really weird for me. I am struggling during my workouts and I always feel like I am going to puke. I have also had a couple times when I feel dizzy/vertigo. But maybe it is from all of the stress of the new diagnosis, midterms and being in the pressure from being in the middle of my sports season. Following up with my doctor on Monday.
Are you feeling as overwhelmed as I am?
CALL your doctor and let him/her know how you feel.
To be honest i am so new at this i have no idea what A1C is. My sugar test this morning was 130 fasting. It was 102 after dinner last night. I only take it 4 times a week right now.
I get warm and shaky and just feel weird. I cant explain it.
You didn't tell us your dosage or, as asok asked, your numbers. Were you trembling or just feel like you were? It matters.
Metformin should be taken during or directly after a meal. It may cause low glucose if taken with other diabetic medication. If any of these symptoms occur notify your doctor immediately - cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremor, anxious feeling, unusual tiredness or weakness, confusion, difficulty in concentration, excessive hunger, temporary vision changes, headache or nausea.
It might just be anxiety. What are you blood glucose numbers and your A1C?
