Question

The gym that I am a member at today on the 19th had a free blood sugar screening. They pricked my finger and tested it and it came back as 122. I did not eat anything after 10pm the night before and had the test done at 8am. About 2 months ago I had blood work done for cholesterol and it was 94 and 6 weeks after that it was 96. I am 24 and weigh 190 5'10. You guys think this is something to worry about? Does the sugar level change daily?

Fasting glucose above 120 is considered diabetic, and is not normal.

Take this American Diabetes Association Diabetes Risk Test http://www.diabetes.org/risk-test.jsp

If you did three glucose checks in three minutes, I guarantee that you would get three different results.  Diabetes readings can go well up into the hundreds and higher while non-diabetics tend to stay in a very moderate range (say maybe 80-130).  Speaking as a Type II diabetic, your results are wonderful.  Your weight is fine.  Unless you feel badly (excessive thirst, tiredness, etc), I see no need to worry.

It's worth getting checked out with a proper lab test through your doctor.  You stated you had not eaten anything, but how about liquids (coffee, soda, juice?).  Regardless, if that reading was correct, you want to confirm and act on it as soon as possible.  The "nice" thing about this is that if this is a sign of a blood sugar issue, catching it early would allow you to take action and minimize any possible problem.  So yes, see your doc.  Let us know how it goes!
