should I ge Tested

I just had surgery on the 26th of August. the next morning for some reason, I have never had my sugar checked after any of my surgies, they checked my sugar. holy cow it was over 350.  through out the day it was comong down and by the next morning it was under 150 and then the day after that was 110. I am not even sure what the normal levels are suppose to be. but the Ob/Gyn that was taken care of me says that she will forward my records tomy doctor and to go from there. I haven't heard anything from my PCP my dad was diagnosed 6 years ago wit diabetes and he as to give himself shots.  his side of the family has diabetes.
Should I call and have a 24 hour fasting test like my my insits or should I wait to see what my PCP says

I had an abominal hysterectomy (I think I spelled it wrong)  I was on Iv over night but the took me off early the next morning and a few hours later took my sugars.

I do have 4 boys and no sugar during any of my pregnancies.  I called the PCP yesterday and they want to test me just to be on the safe side.

thanks
Michelle

You don't say what your surgery was for, and if you were give IV's before, during, and after surgery. Usually IV's contain some type of sugars. This can raise your blood sugar dramatically.
If you have any concerns about diabetes, it is a simple blood test. With it in your family, you are slightly more prone to developing diabetes. Have you had children? Did you have gestatinal diabetes? Or ever diagnosed with hypoglycemia? These are all pre-cursors to diabetes.  You should discuss this with your PCP at your next visit, or call and ask about it if you are worried. Good luck.

Since you have a family history of diabetes get a fasting glucose test. Fasting is not 24 hours but normally 8-12 hours. Discuss with your PCP the possibility of an A1c test too.
