Blood in Stool

Over the past several days I have noticed blood in my stool that is bright red in color.  The stool is flat as it has been for many years (but no blood).  It seems to burn or feel like the stool is passing over sandpaper when it exits.  I also have several bowel movements in a day when this occurs.  I had a colonoscopy several months ago with one polop removed but all test came back negative.  Help!

like everyone else I have blood in my stools, however I have left it for approx 3 weeks.I currently take alot of painkillers with codeine for a back injury and Im thinking it may just be a hemeroid from straining. I have had a colonoscopy and it revealed polops. Should i go back, just wondering.... I am only 25. Also the blood is bright red and I am constipated and it may be 5 days inbetween when i go.

Dear Greg,
It is Aug. 31st. and I am getting concerned. I am 44 yrs. old and most of my life I  have suffered from constapation. However, since February I have suffered from loose, watery stools. And, from occasional blood in the stool to where I have blood in the stools just about everyday. I have tried preparation H to relieve the burning which can bring me to tears. However, it seems to have little effect. I can no longer eat certain things like apples, tuna or mayo which seem to totally irritate my whole digestive system till it feels like there is some kind of a storm going on inside of me. The blood is bright red, so I figured that I was dealing with hemeroids. I have never mentioned this problem to my doctor because I am embarrased to talk about it. I am so tired of dealing with this problem and I am at the point where I think that no matter how I feel that I should just bring it up to the doctor. Does anyone else have these symptoms. What should I do?

Janice,

I have exactly the same symptoms as you.

I am beginning to suspect BAD hemmoroids, but I have a upper GI barium test tomorrow to rule out Crohn's.

Could this be a rich man's disease?  Not enough walking around?

Thanks,

Geoff

Mike,

Blood should always be checked out by a physician.  Why play russian roulette with your life?  Most likely it is something simple like hemeroids, but you definitely want to rule out anything serious.

How long should symtoms continue before going to the doctor?  I am 45 and this morning had bright red blood in my stool for the first time.  It seemed like a considerable amount.  Not to be disgusting but, it swirled in the bowl and I could almost not tell what color my stool was.  This amount of blood seems like it would be caused by a broken blood vessel some where.  I have a mind to wait a day or so at least.  Do you think this prudent?
