Does anyone have a clue?

Recently I had a barium enema done and was told that I have a 3cm mass in my rectum. I kind of laughed it off and asked the doctor if it was just a hemeroid. He said it was not. I am scheduled to have a colonoscopy on the 12th of July. Have been having alot of problems with pain under my right rib, constipation, ribbon like stools. I just cant imagine what type of mass could be in the rectum other than a hemeroid. Does anyone know what this might be or know of someone who had a similar situation? What was done to resolve the issue? Thanks for reading and any response is greatly appreciated. God Bless:)

Hi
I'm so sorry that you are having these problems. Did the doctor tell you why you are having pain under your right rib cage if the problem is in your rectum?  I, too, am undergoing tests to see why I have this pain underneath my rib cage. They are looking into SOD. I had a lower gi done 3 years ago  that showed mild diviticulosis and that is all. I had an ultrasound of my liver and pancreas which were normal. But I have this pain constantly a crampy, pulling , gripping pain that sometimes feels like a rolled up sock under my ribs. The pain goes right through my back. After eating fatty foods I bloat severely. Does any of this sound like your problem? I'm going to Emory University on the 16 of July 'cause the docs here have no clue.........Warm Thoughts........Aniee

Thanks for the supportive responses. I did not know that you could have pollups in your rectum, and do you think pollups get that large. I had 3 pollups removed 10 years ago when I was 26, they were the size of popcorn seeds. Everything was good though. Do you know of any web sites I can go to, to read about the test or the mass. I am really thankful for this website. Keep up the good work. God Bless :)

there is a new type of prep available now that is a series of pills you take.  they're called Visicol.  granted, it's a LOT of pills to take and a LOT of water you must drink, but it's better than the go-lytely or Phosphosoda.  the go-lytely is a gallon of liquid you have to drink.  can you believe they actually have the nerve to call it that?  the phosphosoda is in 2 doses and is only a couple of ounces (6 or 8) followed by lots of water.  less that tastes nasty, but.... same effect.

It could very well be a polyp and that is why your doctor is going to do a colonscopy.  During this time he/she will either remove the mass or do a biposy.  They are just making sure it is nothing more serious.  You will be asleep.  The prep before the procedure is worse than the procedure itself.  I cannot stomach the stuff they make you drink to clean you out.  So for me that is the worse part of the test.  Many times they get in there and find it is nothing.  Who knows, you may not have been clean as you needed to be for the barium enema.  Don't worry until after the procedure.  I hope this information is helpful.  Good Luck!
