pains from exercising

Dear Doc,

I had the Nissen procedure done about 30 days ago. Everthing was fine with the procedure except I had some upper gi bleeding after the procedure. They thought it was a small ulcer at least thats what the nuclear scan showed. It cleared up. This is the problem... Anytime I do any exercising(walking) I get really bad stomach pains. It feels like a burning sensation. I just had a endoscopy done and it was clear. My Dr put me on Protonix 40mg plus 150mg Zantac twice a day. But I still get these pains. Also almost everytime I eat my left eyelid has like muscle spasams. Do you have any idea why I'm getting these pains.

By the way I also have vasvagol syncope symptoms. My cardiolgist says my heart is fine but needs to be conditioned with exercise.

Please help

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Surgeon has kindly addressed your question in his comments below and I agree with his assessment.

If you have these symptoms that are exacerbated by exercise, depending on your age, you may want to consider cardiac causes.  An exercise stress test can be done to evaluate these symptoms.

With a normal endoscopy, it would be unlikely that an ulcer or esophageal or stomach inflammation would be causing these symptoms.

Regarding the muscle spasms - you may want to obtain a basic electrolyte panel such as calcium and potassium to make sure that electrolyte abnormalities aren't the cause.  If the results are not revealing, you may want to be seen by a neurologist.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

Yes I do have some pain on the left side. But I might have some other problems such as nerve damage.  I'm having some reflux episodes that have come back.

Hi, I just returned home from my appt with my surgeon and I think probably our pains arent the same thing..My incision is almost sternum to navel and my entire abdomen stil has alot of bruising...He says he thinks some of my left sided burning pain might be coming from the heprin injections that I had while in the hosp...I know that is what most of the bruising is coming from...Also, Im still very recent post surgery, so I need to give things time to heal...My surgeon insisted on cardiology clearance before surgery...I was evaluated in the heart center at CC foundation one week prior to surgery that included a dobutamine echo, I was started on  toprol that day and am to continue it...you really should get your heart checked out....I hope you are better soon.......Tessa

Two thoughts: first, abdominal pain with exercize can occasionally be due to heart (atypical angina) or other circulatory problems. You don't state your age; if it's a possibility, don't let your docs overlook it just because of your recent surgery.

Second, 30 days after surgery is still in the very early stages of healing: if there were nerve irritation, or even some bleeding under the diaphragm, the effects of it could linger for much longer. So, to the extent that it might be related to the recent surgery, I'd give it a couple more months before concluding that it's not going away.

Hello, may I ask where in your stomach you are having these burning type pains?...Im very recently post surgery..Open nissen fundoplication with collis gastroplasty..I return tomorrow to have my staples out...The past couple days I have had a horrible deep burning pain but it doesnt make sense to me where it is at..It doesnt seem to be where I would expect pains to be from this..It is on my lower left side and it burns almost non-stop...I didnt notice this pain during the days I was hospitalized but its certaintly there now....All other soreness and pains are almost gone but this only gets worse and when I cough it feels like a knife in there...I just wondered if you had the pains in the left side area? Im asking my surgeon tomorrow what is causing them...I will let you know what he says..take care, Tessa

some people do not react well with zantac.
i used to take prevacid during the day and zantac at nite.in the morning i notice my skin around the tail end of my eyes(dont know a better way to describe the location),kind of look weird, hard to describe, but puffy and wrinkled at the same time.
kinf of like there is an earthworm underneath??
may be you should talk to your doc,i know if you read the zantac label,it said some folks do not react well with ranitidine.
i was just taking 75mg once in a while.
