Lower right side pain

I have had a pain in my lower right side for about 2 months now.  I have been constipated for the past 5 weeks.  I have had 2 ultra sounds, a catscan of my upper and lower stomach, and a colonoscopy. everything came back fine.  when my doctor takes a Xray of my stomach there is bowel everywhere and he asks me why Im not going to the bathroom.  no one can find anything wrong.  It hurts around my belly button down to my private area on my right sidemy right hip and my back on the right side with occasional pain in my right leg, i also havce lots of gas in my belly.  I am a healthy 23 year old female.  I am going to the gynocologist to see if they can find out whats wrong.  Any other ideas of what I need to do?  do you think it could be nerves that arent working?  I need to find out what is wrong.  I am convinced its my appendix but all the doctors tell me that its not.  thank you so much for your time.

Have they checked any blood work to see what your white blood cell count is?  I will tell you what I have learned recently.  My son who is 7 suffers from constipation.  Over the past 6-8 weeks he was having pain around his belly button occasionally.  Finally a week and a half ago he had some vomiting and 10 hours later developed right lower quadrant pain.  Not severe just said it hurts and was in pain when I pushed on it.  I brought him to his peditirican who said appendicitis is not likely due to the fact that he could jump up and down and was hungry.  I brought him back 4 hours later and he sent us to the ER to be checked "just incase" or to shut me up.  While there he developed a fever and his white count was 22,000 indictive of infection.  They took him to the OR as a precaution for appendicitis.  He was sleeping four hours in the ED and did not appear to be in severe pain as they would expect.  Well when they opened him up to see what was causing his pain they found his appendix to be necrotic (literally rottening from lack of blood flow from the infection).  The surgeon said that chronic constipation can cause the appendix to become impacted with stool and infected.  His symptoms started several weeks prior and If they had not operated just incase he may have had serious consequences.  As is was we were hospitalized for 6 days on very strong antibiotics.  You are the prime age for appendicitis.  If your symptoms worsen or you develop a fever go to the ED.
Best of Luck!!!

ask your Dr. to do a bone density scan...been there....I am 25yr/fem.  I thought the pain was female problems  turned out to be osteoarthritus in my spine and right hip..yes it makes my stomach hurt, bad....also the hip pain and the private area pain and on down my leg....you probally don't have it but it doesn't hurt to check instead of being told it's all in your head or that you just want pain meds...I hope you get to feeling better soon....P.S. If you can take Aleeve it really does help, that or ibprofen (try an over the counter anti- inflamitory.....don't give up it's not in your head...)

I have had the exact same symptoms and tests.  Everything checks out o.k. but I still have pain in my lower right belly area most of the time.  If you find out what is causing yours please let me know.  I have been told that mine is IBS, I don't know if I always believe that - I think that is a catchall diagnosis when a doctor isn't really sure what it is.  See you - Good luck

Hi everyone,

Please check to see if you have an ovarian cyst. It can be on the right or left lower side. the cyst is very swollen and causes a lot of discomfort and can be painful. It can make you lose sleep and make it uncomforable to turn, turnover in bed, or sit. An ultrasound and a doctor feeling for it can verify the problem.
This can be a chronic problem with your monthly cycle and depending on what side you are releasing your egg will be the painful side. The discomfort on the average lasts me a number of days, a week ? The follicle swells up before releasing the egg. After the egg is released the pressure and discomfort should go away.  Be careful, this can be a dangerous situation if the ovary twists on itself. please do search on this for a better explanation.

Theresa,

been there, currently there, no fun !!!

I would suggest a complete blood count.   That would rule out some things.  The ovary is in that area right?  Don't know exactly where you are talking.  I think I would use a mild ennema to take care of the constipation and Senekot (spelling) S .  S stands for stool softner.  You might just be constipated.  Hopefully thats the case.  In the future I would take Metamucil (over the counter, in the stomach problems area of supermarket)   daily,  to see if that takes care of it.  Are u eating right?  Fiber, veggies, fruit?  I would do these things,  plus seeing a gastro, after your gyn.  The pain in your right leg suggests arthritis or something of that nature.  I'm betting the constipation being cleared up, you will be ok.  These are the things I would do .  Mainly keep in contact with your dr's. Your colon being compacted will put pressure on lots of things in there and make you miserable.  Remember we are not dr.'s here.  Just some remedies to help you along the way til you have the problem solved.

The Best To You,
Joanna2
