why wont my Doc listen

DVK
Thanks for your reponse earlier. I asked my doctor about the cealic and kidney and possible ulcer disease. However he seems to think it was my pancreas. He did say we can talk about referring me to some specialist that works with pancreas problems. My problem is this.

I dont have the accute pain or high pain in stomach, or vomiting , I have some Nasea when there is a flare up but mostly I wake up from this due to feeling a little sick, to the stomach, with lots of burping, and my stomach and intestines rumbling. Since My last episode, It started on Sunday night with my stomach being out of control with gas and noises and sounds (no pain)afgter eating Ham, Green beans with Butter, and rolls. the next day I felt somewhat tired, but otherwise fine. That night Monday, I had a old style italian meal with Lasagne and Bread, Olive Oil and you name it, and to top it off with Pop Corn, Which By the way I have not had alcohol for 2 months. That night after 5 hours of eating is when I woke up with some nasea , no real pain, but figured, I would go in and thats when they tested for lipase and it was at 450, and amylase was normal. Also I have had sever stomach Pains relating to eating EGGS, where it will put me on the floor for about 45 minutes in a fetal position, until the gas or food travels and the pain startshigh and works down to were I can feel it as it goes down to the bottom of the intestines, then the pain subsides.

I would like to know if my blood tests are normal , Ultra sound and CT Enhanced of my abdomin is normal of pancreas and others, and my lipase is elevated not only 1X the high limit of 300 and amylase has always been normal and I have tremendous Gas and moving in my stomach and intestines and "light" pain changes with Burps and Release of Gas, Or slight (light on and off discomfort in the right upper abdomen moves to the left. sometimes upper back but nothing even considered to be constant pain.

Why is he so stuck on it being my pancreas, I know he is a great and well repsected leader and head of the Internal Medicine community here, and My Uncle, but My symptoms are not just Pancreas, they are all over my stomach, Is it just the slight elevation of Lipase that he is stuck on this,

What is your opinion,

Also, SHould I go Outside of him if he wont do the blood tests to check other symptoms out

I can say this, after numerous scans and lots of blood work, including currently testing for celiac, I have gone on a Gluten Free diet and after 6 days I am feeling better everyday, One thing Celiac can cause is Anxiety and Depression on and Off which I was having all of a sudden including legs and weird pains. As of today feeling pretty good although watching what you eat is a little frustrating.

DVK - Could you please keep us up to date?

vriss - have you had any change in bowel movements since the gallbladder was removed? It's been 7 months since I had it removed and things have changed for me, but why now? You would think it would happen soon after. Anyway, it's nothing serious.

Yes!  I have had numerous CT scans for various abdominal problems including gallbladder and appendix.  They always came back absolutely normal, even when both those organs were ready to rupture.  I was just lucky to have a great surgeon who actually listened to me and performed exploratory laparoscopies.  Both surgeries turned into more than just "exploratory".  LOL!

Difficult to say without evaluation.

A normal CT scan would make pancreatic disease less likely.

Further tests can be considered to evaluate the pancreas if this continues to be suspected.  This can include an MRCP of the biliary ducts, an endoscopic ultrasound of the pancreas, or an MRI.

Note that other diseases can elevate the lipase level - including renal disease or celiac disease.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

Hello there - If I were you I would go to another doctor. It's strange, but the same thing happened to me. This other doctor insisted that it was my pancreas and it wasn't! My lipase was high and my amylase was normal. Anyway, he had also been a REAL jerk and told me that I had symptoms of pancreatic cancer, with the diarrhea and all - so you can imagine how crazy I was going. I was telling friends and family things such as "I'll never beat this" and "I'm doomed" - so I went on a frantic search online and I had NONE of the symptoms of pancreatic cancer! Two weeks later I had a follow-up appointment with this doctor - brought my daughter in with me so she could hear what he had to say, he looked at her with a smile, or should I say a smirk on his face and said to me "What am I going to have to do to convince you that you don't have cancer?" this sent me in orbit! This was the last time I seen him! I went to another doctor and the other doctor sent me for a HIDA scan and it showed a stone in my bile duct, he then sent me right away to a surgeon about my gallbaldder. I had it removed. You are having the same symptoms I had and all along it was my gallbladder. You should have some blood tests done also. Oh, whenever I'd eat eggs I would have a horrible time, gas, bloating, stomach pain, so I quit eggs for about a year. I just now started eating them again and since I had my gallbladder removed I can eat as many as I like now with no problems. Well, I don't eat a lot of eggs, thats just my imagination getting away again - LOL, but I can eat eggs again and this makes me happy. Seriously, you should go see another doctor - this sound to me like the gallbladder and not the pancreas!

Hi, I agree with BMW_Girl.  I had many of your symptoms and a complete intolerance to eggs, or any high-protein foods and it was my gall bladder, too.  Good luck to you.  I know how frustrating it is dealing with doctors who don't seem to listen.  I'm sure they mean well, but it doesn't make it any easier on the patient when you're the one suffering.
