Hi...I had the heart palps, but was dx with Hashimoto's thyroiditis and the meds for that took care of the palps for me....we have to look at all autoimmune issues as well as connective tissue ...we r prone to these issues and for some reason the drs do not look too closely at them.

Does anyone here have the feeling that their heart races and have anxiety issues?  This is one of the symptoms of POTS and POTS can be cause by EDS.  We are sometimes diagnosed as having an anxiety disorder or OCD issues.  It's the autonomic nervous system disorder causing these symptoms.  Just wondering if anyone with EDS has pursued this.  I have both POTS and EDS and what seems to be at times OCD, which was explained by the ANS (autonomic nervous system) disorder.  CHECK IT OUT!!

SPOILERS! STOP IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THIS EPISODE!

A body is found in pieces and headless. The feet wear children's shoes, but in an adult size. Brennan's examination of the remains shows up a number of physical anomalies including a cartilidge deficiency which leads the new grad student in the lab to suggest that the victim was an Ehlers Danlos patient. No mention is made of any EDS type or variant. The squints deduce that if they contact the shoe suppliers and local orthopaedic clinics they should be able to find a match. Booth gets a call with the victim's name. Jared was diagnosed in his teens and wears distinctive custom made shoes. He is an author, his mother did not report him missing as she'd thought him at a hotel writing. Jared has OCD in addition to the EDS. He has a right hand metacarpal fracture, it is a boxer's fracture - caused by punching someone poorly. The publisher commented that the punch had not hurt. Hardly any further mention is made of EDS.

The show makes more of Jared's OCD: everything in his room is very organised, he had been attending a behaviour modification course prior to his death to get control of the disorder, in his case Mysophobia (fear of germs). He was the star patient on the programme according to the pyschologist who ran it. Another OCD client steps in and says he killed Jared as he didn't eat at 8:14, the person next to him had died, however it does tell them where Jared had breakfast at 9am and where he was headed. A coffee house owner who referred to OCD as OC/DC points out that Jared had come by to say he had been cured, had even shaken his hand when he left. The victim called his publisher daily at the same time (14:28). Jared had told his publisher he was better, proving it by punching him with his bare hand. He had been in a relatonship with an older woman he'd wanted to marry. Zach notes that everything in and about the house is grouped in twelves. Even Jared Aderson's name had twelve letters. His mother also had OCD and in a moment of panic at his sudden independence had killed the young man.

Booth spends the episode with a back injury sustained on a slide with his son, Brennan manipulates it at the end of the episode and appears to free a spasm causing him to feel far more comfortable and mobile.

That's very interesting!  I don't have OCD, but I am on the autistic spectrum.  Also, I am somewhat convinced that one of my friend has EDS, and oddly enough he has OCD.  Very interesting information!  I've never heard of this association before!

I am so glad u said that ...cuz my DH was watching it too and we were confused by it and that is Y I asked...I need more info on this condition.

And there is no way to know if how it is portrayed in the media is correct...or if we r misunderstanding what we hear...lol...which is most likely what I did : )

Thanks

I just googled the Bones show, and I think it might have meant "EDs" as in eating disorders and OCD.  I've just never heard OCD having much to do with Ehlers Danlos - EDS.

By the way, I love BONES!!

Yes...they were saying the 2 go hand in hand, and after watching it...I had several drs asking me if I was OCD......but I never understood y they were asking.

I know I do things in a structured way so I can remember, but I do not freak out if the routine is broken or changed....I usually just forget to do something : )

You mean OCD as in obsessive compulsive disorder?  I don't think we have that, but we do suffer from depression and anxiety....go figure.  Guess that is no surprise.  But, it's not severe or anything.  I think its mostly situational.  I don't remember OCD being mentioned at ednf.org, but I'm fairly new to that also.
