I just started finding out about life insurance today. I have EDS hypermobility, they are not holding the EDS against me, but the medications that I am taking for it. The quote I got was nearly double the rate if I wasn't taking the meds. Do you have to take any meds for the EDS. Does Met Life or Combined Life consider meds for the EDS, maybe I will go to them?
Sorry for the delay in response, I've been knocking myself out recovering from hip surgery.
In response to your question, absolutely yes, I did inform them of my EDS. But as I said in my post, maybe it's because of the type I have. I wondered out loud if it's possible that they turn down EDS with cardio involvement, which I most definitely do not have. Maybe they assume it has a cardio involvement unless you prove otherwise. I have no idea what goes through their heads (I'd pay money to have that thought list).
Maybe it's just Met Life - that's the company I deal with. This was my second policy, the first one is from Combined Life Ins of NY --- They also know I have EDS, no denial, no increase in cost. The Combined policy was purchased in 2003. Met Life was purchased in 2009.
did you tell them about having eds? I have been turned down by multiple life insurance companies. I ued to have RA Dx, which I guess I still have, but when I got the EDS Dx, I called the places that urned me down and happily told them that the new DX is EDS, thinking I might get approved,. but nope. EDS i on the denial list too. argh! fortunately I have nobody to leave anything too aside from my cats.
I know this is an older post, but I have never been turned down with my EDS.
I just bought another, large, policy from Met Life - and fully disclosed my EDS and had no problems getting insurance. They make me pay a slightly higher premium, but in no way was I denied.
Now that said, I only have EDS Hypermobile Type. If you have the cardiac/vascular form of this disease, that may be a consideration as to why you'd be denied. I have heart and vascular screenings each year for my EDS, even though we know I don't have that form. We do it just to make sure there's no involvement. With that, I had years of proof that I don't have any cardiac or vascular component.
Could it be that this is part of the problem?
Hi...sorry, to hear this happened.
It is helpful to know that ur dx was enuff to be declined ...I have other conditions that I am sure now after hearing this that I am not insurable.
