Post surgical complications after Retinal detachment

18 months ago, I had a retinal detachment and had immediate surgery to repair.  This past may I had  a cataract in the same eye. Both Surgeries seemed successful; however, since, I have had a constant swelling on the retina.  My doctor prescribed Durazol-3 times/day and and Bromday-twice/day.  After months of being on these, the vision improved but as soon as I wasn taken off the Durazol and Bromday the vision became worse.  My doctor put me back on both.  I reached out to another Opthalmologist and he suggested that I now  have not only macula edema but also elevated pressure and an iritis.  He put me on Lotamx 3 times a day, Combigan -two times a day and Bromday 1 time a day.  He sent me back to my retinal specialist with a recommmendation of putting a shot in the eye.  Upon meeting with them,  They recommended surgery to repair the macukla edema.   Now I am totally confused.  Can you recommend how to research the best Retinal specialist in the Atlanta area?

The retinal specialist recommended a vitrectomy because the drops were not working.  I am currently seeking other opinions.

I'm curious as to how surgery can repair macular edema ???  I've had ERM epiretinal membrane surgery to remove the membrane, but was left with macular swelling (not edema though, just a 400 + thickened macula on the OCT test results).  This has remained for 18 months, but has not changed or caused increased pressure.  My retina Sp. has not suggested drops, injections, or surgery.
Just wondering if you know the details of how a surgery would help your retina edema ???  Ask lots of questions and get 2nd and 3rd opinions before going into another surgery.  Read up on the injections also...Kenalog injections ???

I can't make recommendations on specific retina doctors. I can only recommend getting multiple opinions (which is what you are doing on this forum). I'm sorry this has been so difficult for you, but everything you are stating are known, though rare, complications.
Best wishes,
