watering eyes

Hi,     My cousin is suffering from watering eyes for the past couple of years, and worse in the last year.   He is 80 but in good health, lives alone and is capable of doing allhis own housekeeping to perfection.  he wears glasses but because of continually having to remove them to wipe his eyes he frequently removes them altogether.   The surrounding skin has actually become sore.  While this problem may not seem serious itis effecting his lifestyle, as he is very selfconscious about it, and tries to avoid meeting people he knows, and is becoming a loner.    His doctor has told him it is due to a weakening of muscle under the eye (left one slightly worse), and there is really nothing that can be done for him.   He uses prescribed drops which do not seem to give any improvement or ease.  I would be glad to have the opinion of one of your doctors and hope there might be something that could give my cousin a better quality of life.    Romona

He might be suffering from senile ectopion, that may be surgically corrected to facilate the tearfilm drainage.
