sudden arthritis and vision flashes

I just turned 50.  I have had arthritis since high school, but mild.  flareups would be one joint.  10 days ago, all joints are swollen and hurting, especially extremities (except fingers seem fine).  The last 3 mornings, upon waking and turning on the light, I get flashes in my peripheral vision / right eye.  Could these two things be related.  my eyes always feel itchy and tired.

Thank you for your help.  I have an appointment coming up after the holidays.  (p.s. I didn't feel old until about 6 weeks ago.  LOL)

The dryness and itching symptoms could be related to the arthritis, especially if it is rheumatoid arthritis.  The light flashes are not related to the arthritis, but could represent a vitreous detachment from the retina, which occurs as we get older.  See an ophthalmologist for a dilated exam of the retina.
