eye problem - moderate hypermetropia-astigmatic

My son is 5 yrs old, was rubbling his eyes too often and blinking a lot in the last few weeks. The optician diagnosed with moderate hypermetropia and astigmatic & prescribed glasses. My son never complained about headache or eye pain and is able to read books without glasses and with glasses as well. very confused. The actual prescription is very high
RE Sph +6.50 Cyl -0.75 Axis 180 VA 6/10
LE Sph +6.00 Cyl -1.50 Axis 180 VA 6/10
The glasses were given for reduced prescription to start with and will be renewed after a month.
my question is how the child is able to read books without wearing the glass and also with glass...very conflicting.
what will happen if glasses are not used?
Pls clarify and help. Do we need check this with opthalmalogist?

It certainly will not hurt to get a second opiinion from an Eye MD ideally a pediatric ophthalmologist.  HOWEVER if that is the child's refractive erro he most definitely needs glasses, needs to wear them all the time, may need bifocals and may have to ease in to the RX.

Without glasses he may developed crossed eyes, poor vision in one or both eyes (amblyopia) and will not be a good student or read due to the work necessary to do these tasks. DON'T FORGET TO HAVE OTHER CHILDREN IN YOUR FAMILY CHECKED THE CONDITION IS STRONGLY HEREDITARY.

You have not got two same opinions. There is considerable difference in the glasses RX. If one is right the other is wrong. Start work on getting in to see an ophthalmologist but if it will be months before you can do that you need to get the child in one pair of glasses. No way I can tell you which is correct

Thanks for your comments.
None of my family members have similar problem and such a problem occurring to my Son is really a surprising one. I saw another Optometrist for 2nd opinion as I couldn't get appointment with Opthalmalogist and he too identified same prescription but the glass suggested to use Sph +5.00
