MRSA STAPH

thanks in advance for your time.....

Up until November I could not tell you when I had been sick last.  I then got a MRSA infection on my hand which was treated with Bactrim 2 per day for 10 days.  All was fine until two weeks ago when it came back in my nostril.  It started with something the size of a pea and grew to half my check within what seemed to be 24 hours.  Unfortunately this could not have happened at a worse time.  Our beloved family doctor of 12 years is no longer in practice.  Now, I am left scared about my children being infected by me,  concerns for my eyes which after 9 days on Bactrim 4 per day for 10 days and a 5 day round of bactroban are really red and feel dry.  I am scared the infection is in my eyes.   Also, my blood pressure and pulse rate are great.. Sounds good but not what is customary for me.  It was 115/65  - and 55 pulse.  Normally I am around 125/80 and 80..  It is just scary that the change is occuring now.  Can you please advise.

Thanks

No I'm sorry I don't. We use betadine but I think you will need to do your own due diligence and do a literature search.

This is much less a problem for us than other specialities.

I work in an outpatient surgery center.  We have never had a MRSA case but the Dr.'s are increasingly concerned about the rise in MRSA cases nationally.  We are contemplating changing our prep to include betadine solution diluted with sterile saline placed in the cul-de-sac and left for 30 seconds.  Any input?

With that much pain you should be seeing an Eye MD and/or your FP daily. If you have not seen an eye md you need to immediately. That much pain is not normal.

I am scared because I have MRSA in my right eye....I am on the antibiotics, but I am also on dissability and worry about if my immun e system is weaker than most people, am I worrying for n othing?  It is so painful I cannot even come up with words to explain it.  I contracted it from my 20 mon th old Grand-daughter who seems to have gotten ove it with the meds.  Mine started in my mouth and moved to my eye.

Methcillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) is a big problem and is becoming more common.

You need to continue to work with your treating physicians to eliminate the MRSA from your body and prevent your family from coming down with it.

You should see an ophthalmologist to determine if you have an eye infection. Find one at www.aao.org
