Technis Multifocal lens ?

I am having cataract surgery in a few weeks and I was wondering if the Technis Multifocal lens is safe or best for me compared to a Monofocal lensse.  I am 59 and need good site because of plenty of driving I do both day and night.  It seems like the premium lens (Technis) gets good grades but making this choice is difficult for me.  I want the best results and need your opinion.  Thanks!

For night driving a multifocal lens could have issues with glare and halos.  There is no way to predict if you would or would not have problems.  A monofocal, aspheric lens would provide the most crisp night driving experience, in general.  Remember with any lens you choose, you may still require glasses to some degree.

Like dissapointed66 I too had one Restor implanted and then explanted due to glare halos ghositng poor quality vision etc in addition to the doctor putting in the wrong prescription. I went with a torric monofocal set for intermediate and came out about -.25. I am very pleased with the vision which seems to have improved over the last l 1/2 years since my explant. I don't think you can go wrong with a monofocal lens. I can't say the same for the technis. I think the best premium lenses now seem to be the accomodating ones like crystalens.  
Good luck and do take you time and seek several expert opinions before making a final decision. If you do go the premium lens route only go to a surgeon who is highly experienced and has done many many surgeries with the type of lens he/she is recommending.

I have no  experience with the tecnis multifocal lens, but as far as I am concerned, stay away from multifocal lenses.  I have the Tecnis monofocal lenses.  They are terrific.  I only need glasses for small print.  As for as night driving, the are the best, no glare or starbursts.  My night vision is excellent.  I Originally had the Restor multifocal put in my left eye, and it was a disaster.  Had it explanted for the Tecnis monofocal set for distance.  One eye a little stronger.  Both eyes are now done and I am extremelly happy.
Talk to you eye care professional as to what is important to you and he/she will discuss what is best for you.  Again, I would stay away from Multifocals.
