Underdeveloped Eye

Dear Dr.

Do you know of the genetic disorders in which one eye doesn't grow after birth? The eye doesn't get any bigger and is blind. Is there a such a thing as a "eye painting," a contact large enough to cover the entire "baby eye" in which a doctor paints a color on the lens?

Thank you.

Thank you for your speedy response. Can you please tell me what this disorder is called so I can do some research on this?

Thank you,
Kelly

Dear kelly1601,

You are definitely on target.  There are ocular prostheses or shells which can be placed over the eye and are matched to the other eye.  This can help the cosmetic appearance.
