Pain behind eyes

I'm having multiple issues with my eyes. Severe burning, get bloodshot, tearing, feels like something cut my eye, hurts when rubbing my eyes (all these symptoms come and go). Had twitching of left eye, upper and lower eyelid for 5 days, recurred last time my eyes were irritated. Went on to have blurry vision when reading. Now I've had pain behind my eyeballs for the past 4 days, the pain doesn't get severe.

Went to the eye doctor recently and I don't thiink they saw anything wrong (before the blurring and pain behind my eyes). I do wear glasses. She said twitching was mostly due to stress but I was not stressed. She also said the other symptoms are probably due to dry eyes and inflammation. Did not offer any treatment options.

The one thing of all this that is bothering me is why I keep having pain behind my eyes. Any ideas?

Thanks. It was an optometrist in fact.

I don't know if you saw an optometrist or an ophthalmologist the first time.  If an optometrist (OD), you need to see an ophthalmologist (EyeMD).  If you did see an ophthalmologist, go back and be sure to ask for a gonioscopy, which will evaluate the depth of the front chamber of the eye.  Narrow or shallow anterior chamber angles can predispose the eye to narrow angle glaucoma, which can present with pain.  I am not worried about the twitching of the lids, which is common and usually short-lived.  Do not rub your eyes.  If the exam determines that the eyes are dry, there are many remedies which you can discuss with the ophthalmologist:  artificial tears (Optive, Systane, Blink), multivitamins and fish oil (Omega 3) supplements, Restasis, and others.
