Went to the doctor. Doctor says he doesn't know what it is. Currently waiting for a referral to a specialist.

This is a rendering of what I see when I wake up in the mornings or are exposed to dark light for some time. To see it, I just hold my head firmly still and strain my eyes a bit to look to the side. Both eyes seem equally effected. This doesn't happen during the day or when I've been in normal light for some time.
I would of guessed phosphene, but I don't see light, I see dark.
WHAT IS IT?!
I went to an optometrist (D.O.) and he took a picture of my retina and macula, and he couldn't find anything. I am currently waiting to see my GP to get a referral to see a specialist, but in the mean time I am puzzled. The optometrist didn't know what was wrong, and neither did the doctors at some other forums. I've also been searching google for weeks and nothing comes up.
