HI!
It sounds to me like you didn't ovulate normally in January. When you don't ovulate, instead of getting a period, your lining continues to build up, then when it does flush out ( your March period) it is usually extra heavy and long, like two for the price of one!
It can be very normal to miss a period now and then, but if this becomes a monthly problem, it may slow you down on your plans for a baby. If you want to speed up the process, you could use something like Femara or Clomid which are "mild" fertility medicines and don't have an extremely high risk for multiples. They are also not super pricey. At your young ages, you two may just want to let nature take her course, and spend some time enjoying each other for awhile!
Good luck!
