ulcer?

3 1/2 weeks ago, I took tetracycline and LOTS of advil for an unrelenting cold/flu with fever (20 days with fever, in retrospect probably 2 colds back to back)  Finally the clinic gave me these antibiotics and I had been taking Advil regularly the entire month to keep fever down.
During the treatment, I began have mild queasiness and aching in my epigastric area (many areas)
I developed an angry vaginal yeast infection.  I treated that, and began probiotics right away.  By then my stomach was very painful and churning burning ALL the time.
The foods I was eating regularly started making me feel like vomiting.  Like potatoes, then beef, then chicken, cauliflower etc etc  It' s as though I was/am still getting allergic to all these foods.

I strongly suspect an ulcer or severe gastritis ( I already had some gastritis which was asymptomatic, but had been revealed on endoscope a couple years back)
I am down to rice and oatmeal and some beans.  Most other foods make me intense feel queasy and like throwing up - until it passes which takes about 3 hrs.
Have I become allergic to everything, or when my ulcers heal is this likely to go away?

Is this something that commonly happens when a person developes nsaid induced ulcers?
I am afraid that I'll have only rice and oatmeal to eat for the rest of my life!  I've lost a lot of weight already and I'm thin.

I've been looking for forums where other ppl with ulcers can share their experiences with me.
I am taking Prevacid 30mg 2x a day now for about 10 days, and sulcralfate 1-2 x a day.
Just wondering if it's common for people to become intolerant to foods during this and if it is a temporary glitch?

Thank you.

Hi,
It may not be food allergy or intolerance.
It might be due to the inflammation/ulcer not healed completely. With PPI it may take 4-8 weeks for healing.
Take sucralfate along with it and you might feel better.
Yeast does not grow in stomach because of the acidic environment.

Thank you so much for your reply.  This is what I thought.  Here's the thing that is terrifying me so much though.
I have been feeling better the last few days since on PPIs for 2 weeks now at max dosage for a week.
But I have eaten only rice, beans (chickpeas, romano, pinto, black etc) and oatmeal.
These foods have not been upsetting my stomach, though I've lost weight.

Today, I decided to add broccoli.  I ate it just fine a week ago.  And BANG, there was the intense waves of nausea, felt like I turned white, whole body/limbs get weak and feel hot flashes, as if I am close to vomiting.
I curl up in a ball for an hour or two or three.
This 'food intolerance' has been happening since I took the tetracycline and advil and coincidentally when I got the severe vaginal yeast infection.

The answers to the following questions, I cannot find anywhere are:

Have I developed food allergies to everything now and will never be able to eat them again, even after I heal? (in your experience)

Is it possible that if I had severe gastritis or even ulcers form, that they are not yet healed and this is why most foods are still causing this violent queasy reaction?  How long does it take to heal an ulcer (gastric or duodenal?)

Is it possible that I have yeast overgrowth in my stomach?

Have you heard of people getting horribly sick on foods they normally can consume, repeatedly get sick on them while having ulcers, and then become able to eat these foods again one day when everything is healed?

Thanks very much for your time/advice.

Hi,
Both tetracycline and advil can cause gastritis.
Dyspeptic symptoms like nausea, vomiting, bloating, pain can occur.
Have an upper GI endoscopy done to confirm the diagnosis.
Continue PPI till you get relief.
