Do the Carafate pills help esophogitis, or should I get the liquid form?

I have GERD and have been taking Dexilant 60mg for a few months.  Recently I went to the ER because I thought I was having cardiac issues, but apparently it's just the Dexilant is doing enough. So they put me on carafate 4x daily. I am going to get an Upper GI Endoscopy done, but haven't yet, but they say I have Esophogitis (terrible back pain and chest pain).  I know diet is an issue, I have cut out alcohol,. caffine, fried foods, tomatoes, onions, chocolate, and peppermint.  I just want some relief.
