Electric Shocks throughout body whenever I'm running fever.

Ever since I was a little girl I have had what feels like electric shocks go through my body whenever I'm running fever.  I can feel it building and then in an instant it shoots through my body and it feels like an electric shock.  Yes, it is quite painful, but only happens when I'm sick.  Sometimes it starts in my leg, then another time it will start in my arm, then the next time somewhere else.  It usually it strong enough to make me cry outloud as it is quite painful.

I've mentioned it to doctors many times and they have always just looked at me like I was "nutty".  Any explanation for this?  I've never met anyone else that has ever had this happen to them.

Omg I have the same thing! I've never met someone else with it too.Mine is all over my body and happens suddenly from anywhere with no starting point.I can't tell when it will happen. But if I'm sick it has always shown up.it's extremely painful and difficult to deal with. I'm sorry you have to go through that.keep in mind I asked my doctor about it a long time ago so don't trust me on this whatsoever but He said its something to do with tiny spazums or seisours but idk I've never truly found an awnser towards it.

This is an old posting but the problem may still exist. It does for my daughter. I reached out to Dr Sander who had the program Diagnosis but she is unable to assist at this time. So I turn to general folks who may have similar issues. My daughter has suffered and I do mean suffered with generalized electric shocks in specific and then general parts of her body. she had gone to neuro docs but of course when tests and evaluations come up negative it must be all in her head. Typical answer when a doc doesn't know. She had recently been experiencing a feeling of fire in her face even to the extent she feels her hair is frizzing. She feels like someone has put a hand on her face and is pushing. She can feel or hear the buzz given off by electric lights, she can outline on her face the way the electrical feeling is going. It starts at her ear goes down on the skin alongside her nose then to her jaw {all on the same side} She thought it might be her teeth and perhaps allergy to the new fillings in there, but NO the dentist just looked at her and shook his and her heads. She had tried Gabapentin and Tegretol but the Tegretol just makes her lethargic, forgetful and many of the side effects listed, she has them. She cries frequently because she gets to a point she can't stand the feelings or rather she can't ignore them and gets very upset. I find these symptoms confusing to me and why after MRIs and different medications being tried for what is an obvious neurological issue, she can't get sustained relief. It was suggested Trigeminal neuralgia but not actually confirmed. Of course the symptoms I have related are just the top of the cake and more definitive symptoms and life situations exist. If some of what I have related triggers [pun not intended] similar issues with anyone else please comment and tell if you have been given reasons for this phenomenon so I can pursue more avenues. I must also relate I am a registered profession nurse with a BSN so I have some familiarity with medical situations, but this one is a mystery.

For as long as i can remember, I too feel a shocks when I run a fever. Mine are more generalized throughout my body and my skin is most effected. It usually begins in my head or heart and like an electrical current, zaps out. It happens every few seconds to minutes and can even be triggered by loud sounds or just being tapped on my skin. It's kind of like a pang of fear, like the sensation I get when one of my young kids are about to hurt him/herself (falling off a chair head first). To me, it feels just like that bolt that goes through me, only a little more intense. It does lessen when I take fever reducers. The few doctors I told usually respond with "hmm, never heard of that before."

well, you're not crazy, I get them too. It happens usually during a fever or when I am sick or a bad case of the monthlies. It feels like a quick shock in my body. It doesn't build up like you but it shocks me when I kleast expect it. It does hurt but not so much that I need pain killers. I'm not sure if this is a real medical condition or not, but I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that gets it

Yes, this happens to me as well. I used to get it as a child, thinking it was low blood pressure. It only ever happens when I am unwell with a fever. As an adult (I am 31) it is happening more and more often, everytime I am unwell. It's a horrible sensation, hard to describe to anyone that doesn't have it. Starts off in my head and shoots electrical currents down my body thru my arms and legs. I mentioned it to a doctor and she just said it must be my body reacting to the fever. But it is most disconserting and I would love to find out an answer!

That also sounds like sensory nerve hypersensitization. It doesn't only result in pain or shocks.

That is probably your biggest clue. It's also the one most likely to be ignored by specialists. I'd ask everybody else in this thread if they also have a list of odd symptoms, but they probably won't answer.

So anyway here's a theory. There is an underlying tendency in some people to have hypersensitized nerves. That usually results in 'regular' pain, but sometimes results in electric shock pain. The pain could be felt along the length of the nerve. This happens to be known to affect the trigeminal nerve (and others), but nothing will show on a scan because there is no structural nerve damage. It instead has to do with pain molecules: Substance-P and CRGP, which are related to inflammation and also can function as neurotransmitters.

That is the underlying cause, then there will be some immediate trigger. The trigger is likely to be inflammation, such as when being sick but it could otherwise be many different things.

There are some remedies any person can try on their own.

OMG! I cannot tell you how happy I am to learn that I'm not crazy!  Not happy you all suffer as well.  It's horrible.  I use to just jump at a loud sound, even the telephone ringing causes me to jump. Like I feel it in my body. After the first covid vaccine I had a fever and it felt like my finger was stuck in an electrical outlet.  Shocks for 24 hours all throughout my body.  I didn't know what was going on.  I had my husband take me to the ER where they suggested that I was looking for pain meds.  Well yes u was but not because they thought I was looking for a fix. After the fever broke the shocks stopped.  Now I get th em when I run a fever. I had one yesterday for no good reason,  a fever put of no where, not sick just a fever.  Stopped during the night, again I'm not sick but this time the right side of my head started. Do any of you have a joint replacement or any kind of metal in your body like a back fusion?  My back is fused & I have a rod in my thigh & calf.

Sounds like your body is just reacting to the fever, have you seen a neurologist about this? Maybe they can help.
