mystery diagnosis

My son is 18, single and lives in a small town in Utah, far away from his parents. He has been vomiting for a week, has a persistant headache, has a sore throat with puss pockets on his tonsils. Last week he went to an urgent-care center because he does not have a regular doctor in the area he is in yet. They said he had an ear infection, gave him antibiotics and sent him home. His symptoms have continued, so he went to the ER yesterday. They said he was dehydrated and gave him 2 bags of iv fluids. They did a quick test for Mono and Strep, both were negative. They gave him a shot of penicilin, some pills for nausea and sent him home. Today, he continues to have a headache, a bad sore throat and threw up again. He found a doctor, but since he is a new patient, the doctor cannot see him until next Tuesday! Any advice?

Did he explain to the Drs office how sick he is? I think most Drs offices make time during the day for very sick patients. Time where they don't schedule any appointments and save that time for emergencies. He should call again today and explain his situation, or go to another med center.
So they found nothing wrong? Did they do any blood work, or mention tonsillitis?
