Thank you for your very nicely phrased question.
You have asked at the end:-
a) What are my chances when i retest at 12 weeks (or anytime from now?). I am planning maybe to have a 10 week then a 12 week, assuming all goes well.
I don't think there is any realistic prospect that you will be HIV positive from this event. Even assuming she was HIV positive which in itself is very unlikely then your risk per event is something like 1 in 1000 or so. The prospect then of you also having a falsely negative test is too improbable. I think you are HIV negative
b) Could my stomach issues be a sign of ARS?
c) Basically, how much importance would you say my test results are at this point? Is it even necessary to retake the test at 12 weeks?
I think you should take your further test because you will be reassured by it but if you have had a third or a fourth generation HIV test then the result is to my mind certain.
Thank you Dr. Cummings for your response. I would like to add an update that this afternoon i had another antibody ELISA at 10 weeks post exposure and that was NEGATIVE too. I then asked my Dr. a similar question, as (c) above, about the need to retest at 12 weeks and his sentiments exactly echo yours. He does not think the remaining 2 weeks will make any difference, and also that i should put this behind me and go on with my life.
I intend this to be conclusive.
Update. You were correct (of course you were!) My test result did not change at 12 weeks. I actually had to goad the doctor to test me as he did not think it necessary. I suppose there's no need to test out to 6 months and i wish to put this episode behind me.
Thanks for all your words of encouragement and i wish you well and great health!
I am female. have test positive in the past for HPV.... not HIV. I recently had a unprotected vaginal sexual encounter where he inserted his penis 2-3 times no more than a minute each time. Now 5 days later I have aches, muscle pain and heavy chest congestion. He is an African American male. He is also the last and only person I had sex with 2 years ago and tested negative for all STDs including HPV. After I freaked out he admitted the he does usally insert his penis before placing on a condom but was last tested in October and was negative. What are my HIV risk?
