Would it be safe to continue having unprotected sex with my girlfriend of 5yrs. The incident I previously explained was during a few week break we took. Also, why do you say symptoms are totally unrelated. The sore throat, headache, stuffy nose, posterior thigh muscle pains all seem to match ars symptoms. Also, they occurred during the window period for ars.
In your opinion, should I test for HIV?
Does this include French kissing?
Does it make any difference if I have a receding gum about 4mm on my lower front tooth. This area doesn't normally bleed. However, part of the tooth root is exposed and it does get tender and bleed slightly.
What would cause the thigh muscle pains like this. I have never had pains like this and coincidentally they all happened within that ARS window period. I have also read that leg pain is common?
I also have gingivitis. I worry since occasionally I press on my gum and a small amount of blood will show on the paper towel. There has only been one reported case to the CDC for open mouth kissing HIV transmission and I would feel horrible if I was number two.
Hello,
Please, don't be ridiculous! You cannot contract HIV by any form of kissing, even if your gums were bleeding. We know that saliva neutralises the virus and in any case you would need to be the one coming into contact with a significant amount of her blood, and not the other way around. Anyhow, this is irrelevant, kissing is not a way of HIV transmission and therefore there is no need for you to be concerned or even get tested, regardless of her status. Your symptoms are totally unrelated.
Best wishes,
Dr José
