Pls Advice

Dear Doctor,

Good Day. Recently on Feb 19th , under the influence of alcohol i had protected sex with one of the chinese female sex worker. I had an intercourse with her for approx 1 min  by wearing two condoms - Carex brand latex condoms. I had also fingered her deeply for approx 30 seconds. The next morning when i woke up i was little paranoid and worried abt the HIV Transmission. Please could you help with below questions

1) I have read that by wearing two condoms , the chances are more that they might break becasue of the friction. But i was 100 % sure that both of the condoms which i wore were intact and not ruptured by any chances.Considering this situation am i at any risk of HIV transmission even by wearing two condoms and both of them being intact. Is is possible that HIV Virus can pass through latex condoms ... should i go for a test at 3 months ?

2) The next morning when i woke up i noticed a small ripped of cuticle on the same finger which i was used while fingering and that really freaked me out. It was a small one and there was redness around it, a small layer of skin was torn .. but it was not bleeding. Prior to that night im sure that cuticle was atleast 2-3 days old , but i assume that it  became fresh again while i fingered her, also the worst is that i didnt wash my hands until next morning as i was drunk. Am i at risk of HIV transmission this way .. is it possible that HIV would have entered by blood through fresh cucticle. Do you suggest going for a test.

Pls advice. Awaiting

Thanks

Hi Deeps,

A run-away day here in clinic in London for Jose and I so apologies for the delay.

The answer is that if the condoms - the double condoms - were to fail then that would be evident in the same way as if a single one were to. That means that they would likely tear completely. I don't believe in the teeny weeny holes scenario and there is no evidence to support it in the literature.

Using two condoms is not advised - BUT, in your case, they stayed on and all remained well.

I'm with Jose on this one - you are fine.

best wishes,

Sean

I mean , is there any reported case so far that some one has been infected with HIV by wearing two condoms

(This is my last question and really sorry to bother you again on this Dr Jose)

Thanks Dr Jose,

Sorry to bother you again , but there is a lot of conflicting info on web regarding double bagging. The one which is bothering me is that by wearing two condoms, some tiny holes are created which we dont sense while having intercourse and viruses can pass through them even if not broken

Can that be possible ? How true is that .... If yes could it be possible in my case  ?

Awaiting

Hi again,
My previous reply was answering assuming that the sex worker was HIV positive.  Therefore no need to worry at all whatsoever.
Best wishes,
Dr Jose

Hello there,
Thank you for your post.  I am going to answer to your questions here as follows:

1) I have read that by wearing two condoms , the chances are more that they might break becasue of the friction. But i was 100 % sure that both of the condoms which i wore were intact and not ruptured by any chances.Considering this situation am i at any risk of HIV transmission even by wearing two condoms and both of them being intact. IT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA TO USE TWO CONDOMS AT THE SAME TIME.  HOWEVER IF YOU ARE SURE THAT THEY REAMINED INTACT, THERE IS NO RISK AT ALL WHATOSEVER.  HIV CANNOT GO THROUGH LATEX CONDOMS, IT IS PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE.  NO NEED TO GET A TEST AT ALL.  NO NEED TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT HIV.

NO RISK OF HIV INFECTION AT ALL WHATSOEVER.  THE SEX WORKER WOULD HAVE HAD TO BE HIV POSITIVE IN THE FIRST PLACE (WE DO NOT KNOW THA); SECONDLY SHE WOULD HAVE NEEDED TO HAVE A HIGH VIRAL LOAD (NOT ALWAYS THE CASE), AND LASTLY, YOU WOULD HAVE HAD TO HAVE AN OPEN BLEEDING WOUND ON YOUR FINGER (WHICH AS YOU MENTION THAT WAS NOT THE CASE).  THEREFORE, NO RISK OF HIV AND NO NEED TO BE TESTED AT ALL.

Best wishes,
Dr Jose

Dear Doctor Jose,

Thanks for the reply. Just one last question to clear off the matter from my mind.

Assuming that the chinese sex working was HIV Positive , do i still need to worry abt this incident , i mean is there any chance that i could have been exposed to HIV at all ? considering fingering with ripped cuticle and safe vaginal sex. I have read your post and it's been re-assuring for me that no single case has been reported of HIV, via fingering.. even with fresh open wound.

Pls advice further, so i can clear off the issue once and for all from my mind and be relaxed.

Thanks again for ur advice.

Best Regards
