acon and safescreen uk rapid hiv tests

i had a possible exposure to hiv in an unprotected vaginal exposure with a csw in singapore

since then i have bought 4 rapid tests off the internet as i stay in a small island community in the uk there is too much stigma attached to go to the doc

i took an acon rapid hiv test 4 weeks post exposure

another acon 3 months post exposure

another acon 6 months post exposure

and a test from safescreen.co.uk 8 months post exposure

i know these tests are not recommended in this country but i have seen them in shops in foreign countrys.

all i would like to know is do you think there is any more need for any more tests or can i get over this now?

and also is there any much chance of 4 false negatives with tests like these as they seem so simple to do.

i have already asked a doc in the uk about these but he didnt really know and i would just like to get a definitive answer

the way i think is that these tests probably wouldnt be made if they were no good

and i suppose from reading a lot of your other articles the chances of catching hiv rom one possible exposure is pretty low

kind regards

thats what i thought

but it is roughly the same as the insti one you mention with a control line and a test line that only appears if it is reactive

looks for all purposes like a pregnancy test and the company that makes it ACON seems to be a reputable company

i bought it off a site called easykit.info

i hope it is the end of it as it has been buging me for 8 months now and i would love to just get on with my life

dont you know anything about the safescreen company that makes the other ones in the uk

kind regards

thankyou

Hi there,
You are indeed right to say that your HIV risk from this encounter was relatively low.  As you do not know he status of this lady in Singapore, the risk would be even lower, even if she was a sex worker as statistically most individuals are negative.  But assuming that she was positive, your risk would be less than 0.1% or less than 1 in 1,000 from a single unprotected insertive vaginal intercourse.  Because of this I would agree with the results of the negative rapid tests that you purchased.  I cannot comment on a test I do not particularly use or know about and that is not licensed in the UK.  However if this test is similar to the Insti by Biolytical, a negative result at 3 months would be more than final, conclusive and reliable.
Best wishes,
Dr Jose
